1. Eat Breakfast
If you know me, this is an obvious one! I NEVER skip breakfast, but for a good reason! Breakfast helps start your metabolism and gives you energy and proper nutrition to focus throughout the day. I have found that if I don’t eat breakfast, I usually make bad eating habits throughout the day (especially at night..hello sweet tooth!). Starting your day off with a healthy and nutritious breakfast is essential!
2. Drink more water than you think
The Water Question. People are always curious as to how much water they need a day. I love to live by this rule of thumb: drink more water than you think you should. I like to start off my day drinking roughly 30 ml of water before I leave my house. Then, I try to down at least 2 1/2 of those 30 ml bottles while I’m at work, and then one more 30 ml when I get home. Now, this is like perfect world scenario… I don’t always achieve this. But, it is a great goal for me to have! Key: keep a water bottle with you at all times!
3. Walk Often
I like to walk. There is something about it that is so calming and you just feel so…fit! Try to get as many steps in as you can a day. I like to park farther away from buildings, walk around the school if I have been sitting a while, or just go on a walk with my sister. This does not count as my workout for the day; however, it is a great way to keep the burn even after your AM workout! Sometimes you don’t realize how sedentary you are until you consciously try to get more steps in.
4. Eat often
Yes. I said that! Eating only 3 meals a day, in my opinion, won’t let you see the results you want to see. I am a firm believer of having 5-6 small meals a day. That means I don’t gorge myself at breakfast or lunch; rather, I have portion control and all of my meals are around the same size. I also try to eat every 3-4 hours! I am constantly hungry, so this is a must for me. Key: eat NUTRITIOUS meals often….not cheetos often. 😉
5. Pack Snacks for on-the-go
Hangry is a real thing. And, from my experience, the less you plan out your meals, the more in trouble you will get. “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” I try to always prep my lunches for work ahead of time. I know exactly what I am going to eat for breakfast, lunch, and my snacks. Dinner is always different, but even then I try to make healthy options. If you are going to be on-the-go or at work all day, you need to pack healthy snacks! Sometimes, if you get so hungry you will then make poor decisions just to fuel your body! Instead of relying on the vending machine for a snack (or if you are on the go: fast food), pack your meals and snacks ahead of time! For me, it is never a question of “will I get hungry”, but when. Haha!
I hope these 5 tips helped! I love living an active and healthy life. Sure, there are days (a few of them..) where I struggle to eat healthy or stay active, but we all have them. Trying to stick to a guide is so crucial to seeing results. Pick a day out of the week where you plan all of your meals, what workouts you are going to be doing that week, and then, get motivated!
